Who we work with
Three kinds of businesses. One way of working.
Every industry runs on different software and has different risks. Pick yours to see what we do for businesses like you.
Veterinary hospitals
Practice software, digital X-ray, lab analyzers, phones and a front desk that can't freeze during the morning rush.
IT for veterinary clinicsLaw offices
Client confidentiality, document management, secure remote access and protection against wire-transfer fraud.
IT for law officesSmall businesses
Email, files, Wi-Fi, phones, laptops and backups for teams of 5 to 50, without paying for what you don't use.
IT for small businessWhy J-Consulting exists
Most small businesses aren't short on technology. They've been oversold.
Vendors recommend what they sell. Your team doesn't have time to check every quote. A few years later the office is paying for more than it uses, and still not protected where it counts.
We sit on your side of the table: we review what you have, tell you what you need, and make the vendors deliver it.
- Paying for licenses of people who left two years ago
- A server in the closet doing a job the cloud does for less
- Backups nobody has ever tried to restore
- A phone contract that quietly renewed for five more years
- Two vendors blaming each other while the office waits
How it works
From "is this quote right?" to an office that just works
-
01
Review
We look at your current setup, your bills and any quotes on the table. On site or remote.
You get: a map of what you have and pay -
02
Recommend
A written plan in plain English, with options at different budgets and what each one fixes.
You get: a plan you can say yes to -
03
Implement
We coordinate vendors, installs and migrations, and schedule the work around your business hours.
You get: one project lead -
04
Support
One number to call when something breaks, and someone who speaks up for you with every vendor.
You get: an advocate, not a ticket
What we handle
Everything your office plugs in, logs into or depends on
Network & Wi-Fi
Fast, secure Wi-Fi in every room, with guest access kept separate.
Cloud & email
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace set up properly, with licenses that match your team.
Backup & recovery
Daily backups that are tested, so a bad day doesn't become a lost week.
Cybersecurity
Two-step login, email filtering, updates and staff training against phishing.
Phones & internet
Business phones, texting and internet plans compared and negotiated for you.
Computers & hardware
The right machines bought at the right price, set up and ready on day one.
Vendor management
We read the contracts, compare quotes and hold providers to what they promised.
Ongoing support
Help when something breaks, and regular check-ins so fewer things do.
How we work
Four promises we make to every client
Vendor-neutral
We recommend what fits your business, whichever brand that turns out to be.
Plain English
No jargon. You'll understand what you're buying and why before you sign.
Right-sized
A 6-person office doesn't need an enterprise setup. We size every plan to your team.
Your advocate
When a vendor drops the ball, we chase it. You get back to running your business.
Our mission
Make our partners happy.
"There is ... happiness in giving." Acts 20:35
Have a quote on your desk? Get a second opinion first.
Send us what you're about to sign, or tell us what's not working. We'll tell you, in plain English, what we'd do.
IT for veterinary hospitals & clinics
Keep the front desk moving and the X-rays loading.
Your team should be caring for patients, not restarting the check-in computer. We set up and look after the technology a clinic runs on, from the practice software to the phones.
Sound familiar?
The tech problems every clinic manager knows
The X-ray computer can't see the patient record again.
Imaging and practice software that don't talk to each other cost your techs minutes on every case.
We connect imaging, lab and PIMS so results land in the right chart.Everything slows down at 8 a.m.
Check-ins, phones and payments all peak at once, and that's when the network gives out.
We size the network and internet for your busiest hour, not your average one.Are our patient records actually backed up?
Most clinics have a backup. Few have ever tested restoring it.
Daily backups, checked regularly, with a written plan for a bad day.The vendor wants us to buy a new server.
Sometimes you need one. Often, with cloud-hosted software, you don't.
We review the quote before you sign and tell you what's really needed.A day at a clinic we support
What good IT looks like from the front desk
When technology works, nobody notices it. This is the day we set clinics up for.
- Doors open
Check-in tablets, card terminals and phones are ready. Updates ran overnight.
- Morning rush
Every workstation opens the practice software in seconds, even with a full lobby.
- Radiographs
Images go from the X-ray system into the patient's record. No USB sticks.
- Lab results
The in-house analyzer posts results to the chart while the client waits.
- Close
The day's records back up automatically. If anything fails, we hear about it first.
Questions clinics ask
Before you call
Do you work with the practice software we already use?
Yes. We don't sell practice software, so there's no reason to push you onto a new one. We make sure the computers, network and equipment around it run the way the software vendor expects.
Do we have to replace our current equipment?
No. The review starts with what you already have. We only recommend replacing something when it's costing you more to keep it.
Can you help with more than one location?
Yes. We can set up multiple clinics so records, phones and staff logins work the same way at every site.
What does the free IT review include?
A walkthrough of your setup, a look at your current IT bills and any quotes you've received, and a short written summary of what we'd keep, change or drop.

IT for law offices
Protect client confidences without becoming your own IT department.
Small firms hold the same sensitive information as big ones, without a full-time IT team. We set up the systems, security and habits that keep client files private and your attorneys productive.
Sound familiar?
Where small firms are most exposed
A client got an email "from us" with new wire instructions.
Business email compromise targets firms that move settlement and escrow funds.
Two-step login, impersonation alerts and a call-back rule for any payment change.Every attorney saves files somewhere different.
Desktops, personal drives, email attachments. Finding the final version takes longer than writing it.
One document system, organized by matter, with the right people on each.Remote access is a shared password.
It works until someone leaves the firm, or a laptop goes missing.
Individual logins, encrypted laptops and access you can switch off in minutes. The cyber-insurance renewal asks questions we can't answer.
Insurers now ask about two-step login, backups and training before they quote.
We put the controls in place and help you answer the questionnaire accurately. Why it matters
Protecting client data is part of the job
Professional rules expect lawyers to understand the technology they use and to take reasonable steps to protect client information. We help you meet that standard in practice.
J-Consulting is not a law firm and doesn't give legal advice. Ask your ethics counsel how these rules apply to your practice.
Competence includes keeping up with the benefits and risks of relevant technology.
Lawyers must make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to client information.
California attorneys have a duty to maintain client confidences and preserve client secrets.
Security baseline for a small firm
What we put in place in the first 90 days
A practical checklist sized for firms of 2 to 30 people.
- Two-step login on email, documents and practice software
- Email filtering with alerts for look-alike domains
- Call-back verification for any change to payment instructions
- Encrypted laptops and phones that can be wiped remotely
- Matter-level permissions on client documents
- Daily off-site backups with a tested restore
- A checklist for when an attorney or staff member leaves
- Short phishing training for the whole team, once a year
Questions firms ask
Before you call
Will you need access to client files?
Only as far as the setup requires, and always under a written confidentiality agreement. Most of the work is on systems and settings, not on the documents themselves.
We already use Clio (or MyCase). Do we need to switch?
No. We work around the software your attorneys already know, and make sure everything connected to it is secure.
Can you help with our cyber-insurance questionnaire?
Yes. We'll put the required controls in place and walk through the questions with you so the answers are accurate.
What does the free IT review include?
A look at how your firm handles email, documents, remote access and backups, plus your current IT bills, and a short written summary of the gaps and how we'd close them.

IT for small businesses
Technology that fits the size of your business.
You don't need an IT department. You need someone who sets things up right, keeps the bills honest and picks up the phone. That's what we do for teams of 5 to 50.

Signs it's time to get some help
Our "IT person" is whoever is least busy.
Fixing the printer shouldn't fall on your office manager or your best salesperson.
One number to call, and a setup that breaks less often. We pay three different tech bills and nobody knows why.
Internet, phones, software and licenses add up, often for things no one uses.
We map every bill, cancel what's unused and renegotiate the rest.Only one person knows the passwords.
If they're out sick or leave, the business is locked out of its own accounts.
A shared password manager and accounts owned by the business. We're moving offices next month.
Internet, phones, Wi-Fi and printers all need to work on day one.
We plan the move and coordinate every provider so you open on time.Right-sized IT

Questions owners ask
Before you call
Are we too small to need an IT consultant?
If you have more than a handful of people, customer data and bills you don't fully understand, a review usually pays for itself. If it doesn't, we'll tell you.
Do you lock us into a long contract?
We'd rather earn your business every month. Any agreement is explained up front, in writing, before you sign.
Can you work with our current providers?
Yes. We often keep the providers you have and simply get you a better setup or a better price from them.

About J-Consulting
On your side of the table since 2004.
J-Consulting started with a simple idea: small businesses deserve the same honest technology advice that large companies pay a full IT department for.
Too many offices are sold solutions that don't fit them. More hardware than they need, contracts that run too long, and gaps nobody mentions until something breaks. We review, recommend and stay involved, so the technology you pay for actually works for you.
We work mostly with veterinary hospitals, law offices and small businesses across Southern California. They value straight answers and someone who picks up the phone.
Our mission
Make our partners happy.
